Vernelle "Nellie" Rettle

Vernell “Nellie” Rettle, nee Armstutz, 88, of Belleville, IL, born June 14, 1922, in Pinckneyville, IL, lost her valiant fight with cancer on Friday, August 13, 2010, at her home.  


Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Rettle; her parents, Frank and Pauline, nee Rauch, Armstutz; her brother, Earl Armstutz; and her sister, Gladys Klawonn.   



She was the loving mother of Patti (Rick) Voshell of Summerville, SC, Penny (Art) Neely of Ruma, IL, and Peggy (Chuck) Smith, with whom she resided in Belleville, IL. She was Nana to her grandchildren, Craig (Debi) Barttelbort of Ruma, IL, Keith Murray of Ruma, IL, and Shannon (Shawn) Rose of Quinlan, TX; and her great-grandchildren, Adam Barttelbort, Preston and Delaney Murray, and Truie Rose.  They were her heart.



She will be sadly missed by her family and friends in Red Bud and Ruma, where she spent many years working and where everyone knew Nellie.



Nellie’s family wishes to give special thanks to the wonderful people at Heartland Hospice.  We will never forget the tender and loving care they gave her and the family.  In lieu of flowers, we ask you to give to the Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund in our mother’s name.  Also we wish to thank the office of Dr. David Walls and his staff.  He was her special buddy as well as her doctor.  Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.



Funeral:  As per her wishes, Nellie will be cremated and have private services with the immediate family.

    I'm so sorry for your loss.  Nellie was a kind, loving lady.



    I have fond memories of "get-to-gethers"...always a good time.



    Do not grieve too long - she is in a wonderful place.  Miss her, but remember the wonderful person she was.
