How do I summarize a man that I have known my whole life as he and Bernie watched my older brother & sister the day I was born. They were my godparents. He was a warm hearted gentle soul under his crusty exterior. His grandson talked about the mischievous look when he said something just to stir things up and then winked @ you so you knew he was kidding.

So many stories of holidays spent together when Harold was the chief cook, fishing trips, vacations, bowling picnis, birthdays, graduations, weddings, baptisms and then funerals.  I will never forget each Christmas when Harold would make sure Santa found the Read's as we were in Michigan or the time when we were older and said he would have to take the door off and then left a red stocking cap with a blonde cocker spaniel puppy for our Christmas present that year.  Or the time the Read's were dog sitting Speed, Schoen's dog and she had 12 puppies.  OMG!

Most I will remember Harold as friend.  He modeled for all of us what it meant to be a friend.  Helping when ever and where ever needed. Walking side by side to celebrate the happy and sad times.  I often wondered in the past 7 years since my dad and Bernie died whether Harold would die of a broken heart.  I am grateful he had other friends that rallied around him and that he found his friend Marge to help in these last 7 years  He is at peace now & with Bernie and my parents who welcomed him with open arms. In fact my dad most likely said "what took you so long":)
