Donald E. Ackerman

Donald E. Ackerman, 80, of Swansea, IL, born August 2, 1930, in Belleville, IL, died Monday, December 6, 2010, at his residence. 

Mr. Ackerman was a Belleville police officer for 28 years.  He belonged to the Policemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association of Illinois, to the Illinois Police Association, and to the American Association of Retired Persons.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Anna, nee Polich, Ackerman. 

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Marilyn J., nee Brauer, Ackerman, whom he married on March 15, 1955; one son, Tom (Susan) Ackerman of Swansea, IL; two daughters, Karen (Dennis) Hardesty of Collinsville, IL,  Nancy (Bill) Paulsell of Swansea, IL; six grandchildren, Allison (Derrick) Collier, Casey (Jeff) Bassler, Nikolaus Pijut, Aaron and Brianna Ackerman, and Nicole (Shaun) Mooney; two great-grandchildren, Payton and Samuel Mooney; one sister, Pat Downs of Phoenix, AZ; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bill (Betty) Brauer of Smithton, IL, Betty (Lee) Hartmann of Swansea, IL, Barbara (Bill) Meier of Belleville, IL,  Carol Brauer of Belleville, IL, Dottie Brauer of Jonesburg, MO, Audrey Brauer of Neptune City, NJ, Sue Frazier of St. Louis, MO; and many nieces and nephews.

    I don't know if you remember me. My mom and I lived down the road from you in McDonald's trailer court, we used to live at 9 Rocky Dr. I used to deliver newspapers to you.
