Jacquelyn Wilbret

Jacquelyn M. “Jackie” Wilbret, 78, of Belleville, IL, born July 18, 1934, in Belleville, IL, died Monday, May 6, 2013, at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, IL.    

Miss Wilbret was a retired grade school teacher who taught for 30 years.  She started teaching at St. Mary’s Grade School in Belleville, taught for a short time at Lebanon Grade School, and finished her career at High Mount School in Belleville.  She was also the first woman police officer in the city of Belleville.  Jackie was a member of St. Mary’s Parish, Belleville, IL, and the Ladies Sodality at the church.  She also served as a volunteer at St. Luke’s Parish in Belleville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Cornelius L. and Concilia M., nee Brenner, Wilbret. 

Surviving are her sister, Jeannette L. (Robert) Verges of Belleville, IL;
two nieces, Deborah K. Verges of Belleville, IL,
and Roberta J. Verges-Wilkin of Herculaneum, MO;
a great-nephew, Patrick T. Wilkin;
and numerous cousins.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to her caregivers at Memorial Hospital and Hospice of Southern Illinois for their wonderful care of Jackie.

Visitation:  Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 8 2013, at George Renner and Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL.                                  

Funeral:  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 9, 2013, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, with Msgr. Thomas Flach, Msgr. William McGhee, and Deacon Gerry Bach concelebrating.  Burial will follow at Green Mount Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, IL.

Condolences Left For Jacquelyn Wilbret

    I worked with Jackie many years ago & we used to go out together with other friends. I was shocked & saddened to read of her death in today's paper. Jackie was a beautiful person, both inside & out, & I feel blessed to have known her. Rest in peace with Jesus Jackie; it comforts me to know you're in paradise now in Heaven.
